Run for the board
Officers serve two-year terms. Seats are decided at the Biennial conference, which meets in odd-numbered years. The rules below come straight from the bylaws (Article 4).

Who can run
- Deaf, hard-of-hearing, late-deafened, or deaf-blind
- A full-time Florida resident for 6 months or more
- A member in good standing for the 2 years before the election
- Has attended at least one State Conference
- Willing to serve a 2-year term (no more than two consecutive terms)
- Willing to attend mandatory board training
How the election runs
- 30 days before the conferenceCandidacy form, background information and proof of membership due to the Election Committee.
- 7 days before the conferenceNames of official candidates are posted.
- At the business meetingPresident, Vice President and Secretary are elected by ballot. If no one has come forward for a seat, the Election Committee takes documents until the business meeting begins.
- Right after the conferenceElected officers take office as soon as the conference adjourns. Appointed members start within 60 days.
Treasurer
Unlike the other officers, the Treasurer is not elected by ballot. The Board chooses them after a background check and interviews by the President and one other board member.
